FPGA Engineers at Photonic are part of the Hardware Control team. You will work closely with high-performing teams of product engineers and scientists with expertise spanning device physics to classical computer architecture and software. Together, we will develop, prototype, and implement key solutions for our silicon-based quantum computer architecture.  You enjoy the thrill of learning new technology and new science, while bringing your significant FPGA expertise, open mind, and creativity to tackle key challenges as we build the world’s first truly scalable quantum computing system.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO

  • Develop and Design real-time DSP and digital algorithms and systems using FPGAs.
  • Develop RTL design for use within multiple projects. Analyze and enhance efficiency, scalability, and stability of the system resources.
  • Integrate multiple FPGAs and off-the-shelf hardware devices into our quantum computer architecture.
  • Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary teams to conceive, design, and bring innovative quantum services to market.
  • Design, implement, simulate, and test the operation of the FPGA circuits and systems.
  • Provide high quality documentation of code, design, and testing results.
  • Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary teams to conceive, design, and bring innovative quantum services to market.  
  • Work through ambiguous or undefined problems and think abstractly to produce creative solutions to challenging problems.  
  • Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality products.
  • Effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions  
  • Contribute to the intellectual property portfolio at Photonic.
  • Collaborate with the team to tailor fault-tolerant architectures to real-world silicon devices  
  • Delivery of expert level technical support in the resolution of FPGA design and application issues
  • Train, guide, and develop the capabilities of current and additional team members

WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM

  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in electrical engineering, with 5+ years of FPGA design experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)  
  •  Expertise in VHDL/Verilog or similar with additional coding experience in C, C++ or similar low-level languages  
  • Expert in RTL simulation (ModelSim, etc.) and testbench design. 
  • Familiarity with automated design verification using TCL scripts, Synopsys Design Constraints, etc. Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, Perl, Bash)
  •  Solid experience with Altera or Xilinx FPGAs and associated development tools
  • Experience with the use and integration of Off-the Shelf (OTS) FPGA IP cores
  • Experience developing custom IP for production FPGAs and/or ASICs.
  • Experience with high-speed FPGA transceivers, memory interfaces, etc.
  • Familiarity with implementing DSP processing algorithms in a FPGA.
  • Experience in advanced digital hardware design and PCB layout would be a huge asset.
  • Experience with real-time systems and code/design optimization
  • Experience with real-time systems (VxWorks), embedded Linux and/or other embedded operating systems. 
  • Familiarity with digital signal processing techniques and algorithms would be an asset.
  • Experience with implementing electronics at cryogenic temperatures is an asset.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic, and spectrum analyzers. Comfortable with hardware debugging
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to express complex technical concepts in a clear and easy to understand way.  
  • Experience working in a start-up company, working with senior leadership, scientists, engineers, and other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems, ability to resolve ambiguous requirements, prioritize, and manage simultaneous tasks.
  • Outstanding teamwork skills
