As a Quantum Engineer at Photonic, you are an integral part of the quantum team, responsible for developing and characterizing photonic spin qubits in silicon. You will work closely with high-performing teams of scientists and engineers with expertise spanning quantum science to classical computing. Together, you will characterize, control, entangle and optimize the qubits. You will prototype and implement key novel solutions for our silicon-based quantum computer architecture. You enjoy the thrill of learning new technology and new science, while bringing your significant quantum science and hardware expertise, open mind, and creativity to tackle key challenges as we build the world’s first truly scalable quantum computing system.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO

  • Characterize, develop, and optimize the quantum properties of silicon spin qubits
  • Implement protocols for qubit initialization, control, readout, and entanglement
  • Measure qubit devices and present design feedbacks at the material, chip, or control level
  • Translate fundamental physics into engineering specifications
  • Explore how quantum devices can optimize key performance factors such as fidelity, connectivity, coherence, scalability, reliability, and efficiency
  • Prototype quantum characterization, verification, and validation algorithms, collect and analyze data on simulators, emulators, or hardware platforms as they become available
  • Collaborate with the Photonic team to tailor fault-tolerant architectures to real-world silicon devices and develop hardware towards fault-tolerance
  • Write patents and peer-reviewed articles reporting advances where applicable
  • Identify and build collaborations with outside organizations (government labs, academic groups, partners)
  • Train, guide, and develop current and additional team members

WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM

  • Master's or PhD in Electrical engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or related field
  • 5 years of experience in the field of quantum computing and/or engineering
  • Experimental quantum technology expertise in any of the major quantum systems (spin, superconducting, ion traps, etc.)
  • Experience with quantum (spin and/or optical) control and benchmarking
  • Proficiency in working with Python or other modern programming languages
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations in rapidly changing research environment
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively solve engineering problems
  • Outstanding teamwork skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
