We are currently looking for PhD students in a wide variety of STEM fields — physics, computer science, AI, neuroscience, chemistry, cryptography, mathematics/statistics, biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering, geophysics, and more — to join our world-class team of engineers, scientists and technologists. PhD Residency - PQC Research Scientist

The Sandbox team is looking for a research scientist resident to help functionalize the next generation of cryptographic systems. A successful candidate will be comfortable with post-quantum cryptography, cryptanalysis of post-quantum cryptosystems and cryptographic protocols. ML experience will be considered a plus. They will be part of a diverse team consisting of cryptographers, mathematicians, ML experts, and physicists, where they will play a key role in efficient and effective enablement of the technologies being developed. 

Core Responsibilities:

• Research and design new quantum-resistant cryptographic primitives or attacks
• Work closely with the engineering team to integrate research outcomes into the product portfolio
• Implement and validate innovative cryptographic constructions and/or protocols

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong background in post-quantum cryptography and / or cryptanalysis of post-quantum cryptosystems 
• Deep understanding of cryptographic protocols
• Familiarity with MPC, FHE and/or ZK

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in C, C++, Rust or Golang
• Understanding of side channel attacks and other challenges such as microarchitectural attacks, and their countermeasures
• Knowledge of formal methods applied to cryptographic implementations
• Experience contributing to open source projects

Details:

• Location: Remote in North America or Europe
• Start date: Year-round, on a rolling basis
• Duration: Flexible, typically between 4 months to one year
• Eligibility
  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program on math, computer science, or related field. **Non-PhD post-graduate students may be considered on a case-by-case basis as Master Interns (e.g. MD, Masters)
