Your Role

1QBit is looking for outstanding researchers to work in the areas of quantum information processing and computational sciences. Our Hardware Innovation Lab (HIL) team is interested to hear from early-career researchers who are excited to contribute to the various layers of the full stack of quantum computing. HIL collaborates with its hardware partners, employing its expertise in classical and quantum computing to develop technologies that will enable scalable and applicable quantum computing. Our postdoctoral fellowship program is a 1-year appointment and may lead to full-time employment.

What You’ll Do

  • Work alongside peers with unique and creative backgrounds in physics, computer science, mathematics and engineering
  • Constantly learn through your work as well as active engagement with the academic community
  • Present to and learn from collaborators
  • Design and analyze algorithms
  • Implement numerical experiments
  • Perform simulations and benchmarking
  • Take part in generating reports, drafting patents, authoring publications, and attending conferences

What You’ll Bring

Members of our team bring a confluence of personality, skills, and intent that contributes to their individual development and our collective growth as an organization. The knowledge and mindset you will bring to our team include the following:

  • PhD in computer science, physics, or mathematics (or equivalent training)
  • A strong track record in research, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and top-tier conference presentations
  • A passion for quantum computing
  • Demonstrated strengths in one or more areas related to the work at HIL, including but not limited to:
    • Quantum information science: quantum algorithms, quantum error-correction, fault-tolerant quantum computing
    • Optimal classical and quantum control: quantum control, control theory, optimal control
    • Machine learning and optimization: convex optimization, non-convex and discrete optimization, combinatorial optimization, deep learning, reinforcement learning, generative and adversarial learning
    • Theoretical and/or experimental expertise in quantum hardware technologies: superconducting qubits, silicon photonics, trapped ion systems, quantum optics, cold-atom qubits, spin-based qubits, etc.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and strong programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++)
  • Ability to work well with others towards a common goal
  • Research independence: the ability to take responsibility and initiative to conduct your research as it is required in working towards the common goal

Who We Are

The Hardware Innovation Lab is a unique division in 1QBit that works to address the computational challenges of building performant alternative computing devices, including quantum computers and classical HPC devices. With expertise in quantum information science, quantum control, machine learning, optimal control, and optimization, our drive is to support and accelerate the development of advanced computing hardware. We are constantly developing our tools, methods, and expertise,  in order to support our hardware partners and experimentalist collaborators.

About 1QBit

1QBit is dedicated to solving the world’s most intractable challenges by recasting problems to harness the power of quantum computing. We identify demanding industry problems and apply breakthroughs in computation to machine intelligence and optimization science to build software that allows applications to continually benefit from advances in both quantum and classical hardware. We believe that quantum technologies will form the next pillar of computational progress. We research, benchmark, and build software development kits, online platforms, and applications that make the power of quantum computers accessible to researchers, developers, and industry-leading organizations so they can solve their most difficult problems in fields such as optimization, simulation, and machine learning.
